My primary medium is letterpress printing. I use antique metal type, wood type, and illustrated cuts, often in conjunction with experimental processes, to produce contemporary work. I began my career in letterpress as a writer and book artist; I was simply looking for a way to improve the quality of my handmade books. That early work was very traditional, and allowed me to deliberately craft a traditional skillset. It wasn’t until much later that I forayed into large-scale design and abstract artwork. The natural progression in my work from traditional to experimental has given me the advantage of learning the rules so that I might break them with grace.
